The Story behind Strip To It
Producer, and Engineer, Stephen "Da Brayne" Sherrard had been helping other artists produce great sounding music for close to ten years, when he finally decided it was time to produce some music of his own again for fun.
Stephen "Da Brayne" Sherrard comes from a strong musical family and was brought up to enjoy and appreciate a wide variety of music. He also is a musician himself, playing trumpet since the third grade, as well as piano and a little bit of guitar. Although he sang in choirs in his early years, Da Brayne does not consider himself a singer and feels that most people would rather not hear his singing voice!
As a full time professional music producer and recording engineer, Da Brayne has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of bands and artists in a very diverse range of musical styles.
So, when it was time for Da Brayne to start working on his own music again, he needed something to tie all his diverse musical interests together into some kind of cohesive theme. It is said that you should work with what you know and love! Apart from music, Da Brayne loves women (his wife, in particular), and loves sex and sensuality in art when presented in a tasteful way. Thus the concept was born for...
Sex On Da Brayne
The original concept for the Sex On Da Brayne project was to produce music that combined several modern styles of music - jazz, pop, funk, hip-hop, and electronica. These styles would be merged together into a blend of music that ranged from smooth and sensual mood music, to mid-tempo funky music with a strong sexual groove, to upbeat and playfully sexy electronic dance songs.
The final ingredient in the mix was to bring in several of the sexiest vocalists in the Seattle area to lend their talents, along with some of the top jazz sax players to lay down some soulful lead horn tracks!
MP3.com Success
Several songs for the Sex On Da Brayne project were completed in early 2000, and Da Brayne decided to test market them on MP3.com to see how others responded to the market. It didn't take long before the playfully sexy song "You Make Me Wanna Get Naked" was featured by MP3.com on the "Sexy Songs" playlist and mentioned in the MP3.com e-mail list newsletter. That song quickly shot up into the Top 40 on MP3.com, also reaching number 1 in the "Pop Vocals" category.
Soon after that, with just a little bit of online promotion, several other songs reached number one in their genre, and two of them also made it into the overall MP3.com Top 40. The song "Sax On Da Brayne" hit #1 on the Acid Jazz charts and stayed there for several months in a row until Da Brayne decided to move it into the Smooth Jazz category. It also reached #1 in the Smooth Jazz category and remained there for several months.
Other songs such as "A Little Sax" and "Afterglow" had similar success stories. In the one year period from October of 2000 to 2001, Da Brayne's music was downloaded over 240,000 times from MP3.com visitors! No small accomplishment considering the vast number of artists with music on MP3.com!
After 2001, MP3.com changed the way it compensated the artists and also required that artists pay MP3.com for "premium" services. At that time, Da Brayne stopped promoting his music on the MP3.com site, although you can still find several of the older, un-mastered versions of the songs on that site.
Digital Photography, Video, and Nude Models?
Stephen "Da Brayne" Sherrard was a major photography buff in his early years, with an extensive 35mm camera setup, a darkroom, and even a Super 8 movie camera. He won many awards for his photography work, and was the Illinois State 4-H photography champion. In fact, he won the photography awards so many times at his county 4-H fairs that they eventually made him one of the judges!
But, as much as Steve loved photography, music was an even deeper passion! So, Steve's photography was mostly limited to vacation photos and family shots during holidays, while he concentrated on a career in the music business.
With the digital revolution in the past few years, Da Brayne became seriously interested in photography and video again, and purchased digital cameras and lighting equipment.
This time around, though, Da Brayne wanted to tackle different subject matter than the type of photography work he did in his early years! He started working with nude figure models and dancers and doing tastefully sexy and erotic photography that he hoped he could somehow tie in with the music of the Sex On Da Brayne project.
Forget Sex On Da Brayne, let's Strip To It!
After doing extensive research, studying up on releasing an independent record, and watching many other artists try it all and fail, Da Brayne decided that was not the best way to get his music out there. He still had his studio business to run, and there simply wasn't enough time for the massive promotional effort it takes to get an independent CD noticed at all.
The Sex On Da Brayne project was a studio project, and since Da Brayne doesn't sing and has no desire to be a performing artist, it was time to look for alternate ways to release the music.
Stephen "Da Brayne" Sherrard and his wife both enjoy the occasional shopping trip to the "softcore" lingerie and adult novelty type stores, and thought that might be a good outlet for selling Da Brayne's sexy music. After several months of research and discussions with distributors and retailers, plus a trip to the International Lingerie Show in Las Vegas, the concept for Strip To It was finally put together.
Steve's wife Karen came up with the Strip To It name for the product line, and it just seemed perfect for describing the best use of the music.
However, research had revealed that "erotic music" CDs were not very big sellers in the lingerie and adult novelty retail market. Instructional striptease and exotic dancing videos (and classes) were quickly becoming a hot item. "Cardio striptease" classes were beginning to appear in health clubs across the country and were receiving coverage in the press.
This seemed like the perfect opportunity for Steve to combine his new digital video work with his music. He enlisted the aid of several professional dancers in the area, as well as award winning exotic dancer Fawnia Mondey, and set about creating some very useful instructional content.
Most Bang For The Buck!
The extensive instructional video and written material could be added on to the end of an audio CD using the enhanced CD-Extra format. The enhanced CD-Extra discs cost the same amount to manufacture as any other discs. This allowed Steve to put out the Strip To It product for the same cost as any other audio CD, yet packing it with a great deal of instructional video and written content as well!
Music from the original Sex On Da Brayne project was extensively tested, and only the best songs for exotic dancing were selected to be used on Strip To It. New additional songs designed for exotic dancing were then produced to fill out the rest of the Strip To It CD.
Pure Pleasure!
There's no doubt that the instructional content on Strip To It can lead to some very pleasurable experiences! It certainly has for Stephen "Da Brayne" Sherrard and his wife! However, it's the music itself which still gives Steve and Karen the most pleasure. Even after having heard the songs several hundred times each during the long production and development process, they both still enjoy listening to the music. Karen evens likes to sing along to her favorite song, the title track "Strip To It"!
For those of you who have never heard the music before, we are sure that you will find it to be a pleasurable treat as well! Even if you never access the instructional content of the disc, we are sure that you will enjoy the music for years to come!
Don't take our word for it, though! Listen for yourself!
There's nothin' wrong with a little Bump n' Grind!
After the success of the original Strip To It CD, Steve listened to suggestions from customers and talked with retailers about what would be the best follow up product. By far the biggest request was to have the video on a DVD. After that, Lap Dancing seemed to be the most popular request. And so... Stephen "Da Brayne" Sherrard, along with help and ideas from his wife and distributor, started producing the new Strip To It Bump n’ Grind DVD and CD.
This time around Steve started with the video content. He hired four dancers for the video, including Fawnia Mondey and Nicole Scott, who both helped out with the first Strip To It CD, along with Ms Fyre and Cleo. Steve picked these four dancers because they were all different and he wanted to present as much variety as possible so that you, the customer, could have many different tips and techniques to choose from that fit your style and mood.
This time, Steve also let the dancers pick their own music to do their demonstration dances to, so that he could get a good feel for what the professional dancers like to do a lap dance and striptease to. He used that information to help produce new music that had a similar style and beat to the music that the dancers picked.
As a professional music producer and recording engineer, Stephen "Da Brayne" Sherrard, took his time to produce great music that people would enjoy listening to again and again, even if it is never used for lap dancing or stripping. Steve spent over a year working with a wide variety of the best Hip-Hop, RnB, Jazz, and Dance musicians, vocalists, and songwriters, that he could recruit. Some of these musicians include award winning RnB vocalist Aneel, award winning rap group Rebelz, award winning saxophonist Darren Motamedy, as well as several of the top studio musicians and vocalists in the greater Seattle area. Of course, "Da Brayne" himself is a very talented producer and musician who had several chart topping hits on the original MP3.com web site, and has composed music for a wide variety of film, TV, and video projects. In fact, you've probably already heard some of Da Brayne's work, but just didn't realize it.
One of the other things that Steve noticed when working on the Strip To It Bump n’ Grind project was that one song simply didn't seem like enough for a really good slow and sexy lap dance or striptease. Even at the strip clubs, most dancers take at least two songs to do their full routine, and a lap dance to one short pop song didn't even seem to be enough for most guys either! Not concerned with the limitations of commercial radio airplay, Da Brayne decided to make most of the songs on Strip To It Bump n’ Grind longer than your typical radio friendly pop song. He also took a clue from the strip club DJs and mixed the songs together into non-stop sets of music, with no pauses at all between songs. This way, the mood isn't interrupted by the silence in between songs that you'll find on most CDs, and you can keep going for as long as you wish. With the CD packed with a full 74 minutes of non-stop music, you should have plenty of time to not only do a very slow and sexy lap dance or strip tease, but also plenty of time to move on to "other activities" without the music running out on you (and there is always repeat mode if you need even more time).
Core Moves & Fantasies
Although he still doesn't come close to making a living from the Strip To It products, the success of the Bump n' Grind DVD convinced Steve to take the series to the next level! He spent quite a bit more money and time producing the new Core Moves & Fantasies DVD, and making sure that it was a high quality product with very useful instructional content, as well as great music.
The new Core Moves & Fantasies project started out with the idea of dress-up fantasy themes, and coming up with a unique way to create a more "club-like" striptease show experience in the home. Steve decided to compose and produce special soundtrack music for ten popular dress-up fantasy themes. He then mixed the music in surround sound with dialog snippets and sound effects to help set the scene for each fantasy, while enveloping the dancer and her man in 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. These soundtracks were incorporated into the unique Performance Videos, which include graphic patterns that are synchronized to the music that the woman can use as sexy backlighting for her dance, to more closely recreate a dance club experience at home.
But, it wasn't enough to simply spend over a year, again, working on the soundtrack music with several top musicians from the Seattle area (including the drummer from Heart, Ben Smith). Steve knew that he had to include some high quality instructional video content as well. Steve hired professional dance instructor and choreographer Angi Carlston, and two of her star students, to map out and create the instructional content. After much discussion, it was decided that we should go back to the basics and provide a very solid foundation of Core Moves that women can use to put together their own unique striptease routines. However, we also included a collection of specialty moves to go along with many of the dress-up fantasy routines, as well as plenty of transitional moves, combo moves, and even a few advanced moves, to round things out.
Steve also wanted to take the video and audio quality of the instructional video to the next level as well. So, he hired a video production team and makeup artist, bought some location sound recording equipment, and then rented out a high end professional recording studio with a big enough room for the three dancers and all the lighting and video equipment. The video was shot with three cameras to ensure that we always had the best angle covered for each move. We also hooked up a wireless microphone to Angi, whenever possible, to get crisp and clear dialog audio while she described and demonstrated each dance move. For those times where the wireless transmitter got in the way of her moves, or if the audio was unusable from too much movement around her microphone, we also had a shotgun microphone set up on a pole up above Angi. Backup microphones on all three cameras helped to synchronize the video from each camera, but, thankfully, never needed to be used for the final audio since the wireless and shotgun microphones did their job without fail.
After the video was all shot, Steve spent several weeks carefully editing the extensive amount of video. The goal was to keep the presentation clean and simple, and to cut out any extraneous material. He had seen other videos that made up for a lack of content with excessive video editing effects and tricks, and endless testimonials and interviews which really didn't add anything useful. Steve cut the Core Moves video content down to the bare essentials, keeping it all business, while leaving plenty of room on the DVD for the Performance Videos and bonus material!
TThe result is the best Strip To It product yet! Strip To It - Core Moves & Fantasies is packed with a huge collection of basic striptease moves, along with many specialty moves to go along with the dress-up fantasy themes. But, once you learn enough moves to put together your own routine, the DVD doesn't get thrown away... NO! Now it's time for the show to begin! Sit your man down in your home theater, put your fantasy costume own, and turn on the corresponding Performance Video to really surprise your man with something unexpected and very sexy! You even get all ten of the soundtrack themes in high quality MP3 format that you can load onto your portable music player, or burn onto your own CD, so you can dance to the music anywhere that you may not have a DVD player handy.
Value above all else!
SStephen "Da Brayne" Sherrard has always lived by the philosophy of delivering the best value possible for the customer's money. That applies to the work he does with clients in recording studios and well as the Strip To It products he produces. Steve ensures that the music he produces compares favorably with any major label release, and that people will enjoy the music for a very long time.
On the video side, Steve knows that he can't compete with multi-million dollar movie studio productions, so he concentrates on finding the best dancers who can clearly communicate and demonstrate simple techniques and dance moves that the average woman can easily learn. Steve does all the video editing himself to keep the costs under control so he can pass on the savings to you! With today's high-end digital video cameras, and Steve's high-end computers that he uses in his recording studio, he can easily produce high quality video (along with the music) that rivals just about any other instructional product out there. No fancy computer animations, rapid MTV style edits, or other gimmicks, just real dancers and instructors doing what they do best presented in a simple and straight forward way.
Da Brayne also believes strongly in filling up every available bit of space on the product discs. The original Strip To It CD used every bit of space possible on a standard CD to squeeze not only more than 50 minutes of music, but more than 40 minutes of instructional multimedia video and written content. The Strip To It Bump n’ Grind CD is also fully packed with 74 minutes of non-stop music, and Steve also squeezed a complete 120 minutes of video onto a standard single-layer single-sided DVD. With the new Strip To It - Core Moves & Fantasies DVD, Steve managed to fit over an hour of high-quality instructional video, plus over an hour of Performance Videos with both surround and stereo soundtracks, and a DVD-ROM section with high resolution MP3 copies of all of the fantasy soundtrack themes, along with behind the scenes photos, and additional bonus material... ALL of this on just one DVD!

As this is still a relatively new product line, Steve and his wife really don't know for certain what the future holds.
We welcome any and all feedback and will try to incorporate as many ideas as possible into future products to continue to deliver the best value for your money!
